If Aptify is not currently installed on your server, there are two options to install Aptify 5.5 and both approaches result in a database server running Aptify 5.5. The preferred approach is to use you must first install the Aptify 5.5 Full Setup program. An alternative approach involves installing the Aptify 5.0 Full Setup and then applying the Aptify 5.5 Service Pack Installer. If the Aptify 5.5 Full Setup is unavailable, install Aptify 5.0 Full Setup and then apply the Aptify 5.5 Service Pack Installer. As of July 2012, the Aptify 5.5 Full Setup is not available, but will be available before the end of 2012.

Important Pre-Installation Considerations

  • This installation can only be applied to a server running Aptify 5.0, 5.0 SP1, 5.0 SP2 or 5.0 SP3. If your server is running an earlier version, you must upgrade to Aptify 5.0 first before applying this version.
  • For best results, Aptify recommends that an organization install service packs, add-on applications, and new versions in the order in which they are released. For example, since Aptify e-Business 5.0 Service Pack 3 was released before Aptify 5.5, Aptify recommends that an organization using e-Business install e-Business 5.0 Service Pack 3 first before installing Aptify 5.5.
  • However, there may be cases where the above installation recommendation is not feasible (such as if an organization purchases e-Business 5.0 and the server is already running Aptify 5.0 Service Pack 3). For these situations, Aptify recommends that an organization install e-Business and then re-run the Aptify 5.5 installation to ensure that any updates to that add-on application that were included 5.5 are applied to the server. In situations like this, please contact Aptify Support for assistance.
  • Aptify 5.5 includes a new Accounting Periods feature. If your system includes an existing Accounting Periods configuration, the Aptify 5.5 Service Pack installation may be incomplete or fail to install. If the Aptify 5.5 Service Pack Installer detects an existing Accounting Periods configuration, a message will be displayed alerting the administrator of the potential conflict. If a pre-existing configuration is detected or if you know that your system includes an existing Accounting Periods configuration, Aptify recommends that you review the Aptify 5.5 Release Notes prior to continuing installing the Aptify 5.5 Service Pack or contact Aptify Support for assistance.
  • The Aptify 5.5 Service Pack installer includes a utility that identifies duplicate company subscriptions. Aptify recommends that this utility is run and duplicate subscriptions are resolved prior to upgrade to Aptify 5.5. See Running the Duplicate Subscription Utility in Aptify 5.5 for more details.

Considerations

  • Once the 5.5 install is complete, run the U.S. zip code update utility on your Aptify server. See Running the Update Utility for U.S. ZIP Codes.
  • Once the 5.5 install is complete, Aptify recommends that you consider enabling SQL Server snapshot isolation. Review the information in Enabling SQL Server Snapshot Isolation to determine whether enabling this function would improve your Aptify environment, and if needed,perform the steps to enable the function.
