The POS application accesses Aptify via web services running on a web server. This can be the same server as e-Business or a separate web server, as long as the services are externally available on the internet. To ensure the security of sale transactions, the web services must only be available via SSL.

This topic describes the hardware and software requirements for hosting POS services.
 

Software Requirements

The following is a list of software requirements for the web server hosting the POS services:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 operating system running the latest service pack. The Microsoft Windows Server Web Edition is acceptable.
  • 32‐bit and 64‐bit Windows Server operation systems are supported
  • Verify that IIS has Application Development Role installed with at least .NET Extensibility and ASP.NET.
    
    
    
    

• Microsoft IIS 7.0 or higher with ASP.NET 4.0
  • To manually confirm that ASP.NET 4.0 or higher is available on the computer, follow these steps:
    • Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools).
    • Select the Application Pools List from the console tree.
    • Right‐click on one of the application pools and select Basic Settings.
    • On the Edit Application Pool dialog, confirm that 4.x appears in the .NET Framework version drop‐down list.
• Aptify 5.5 or higher
• Microsoft.NET Framework 4
  • The Web server can be set up with this pre‐requisite using the Microsoft .NET Framework Web Installer available here: (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851)
• ASP.NET MVC4 Web API (http://www.asp.net/mvc/mvc4)
• SSL Certificate

Hardware Requirements

• At minimum, a computer capable of running Windows 2008 Server and IIS Server 7.0 is capable of supporting the Mobile POS services. These are estimated guidelines only; hardware requirements may vary significantly depending on transaction volume and other applications running on the server.
• Aptify recommends the following minimum technical specifications:
  • Dual 3.0GHz dual‐core processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • Minimum 1GB available space

Trusted User

To successfully install and run the POS web services, specify a Windows user account during installation that meets the following criteria:

• Account must have the appropriate administrative privileges on the Web server to run the Mobile Point of Sale Service (as defined by your organization's security policies).
  • At a minimum, this user should be a member of the local server's Users group.
• Account must be a trusted user with a valid license on the Aptify database server with the appropriate privileges to conduct Mobile Point of Sale activity.

  • A Trusted user account is also referred to as an account that uses Windows Integrated Security.

    A trusted user must be linked to an Employees record, as this record is required for Order Entry (e.g., Employee is linked to an Orders record.)
