Configuring Compatibility Mode By Default With Internet Explorer 8 or 9

This topic applies to e-Business 5.5 environments where the website was designed for use with an older version of Internet Explorer. If your website is designed for use with older versions of Internet Explorer, it may not render properly in Internet Explorer 8 or 9.

The e-Business 5.5 ICE starter site for Sitefinity 4.4 is designed to support Internet Explorer 8 and 9. For best results, you should not configure that type of site to run in IE 7 compatibility mode, and you should ignore the instructions in this section.

If this is the case, while browsing your e-Business site with IE8 or 9, a user can select the Compatibility View option in the address bar to run Internet Explorer 8 or 9 in Internet Explorer 7 compatibility mode so that the e-Business site appears as it would in Internet Explorer 7. However, some Web User may not be familiar with this workaround. As an alternative, an administrator can configure the website to always appear in Internet Explorer 7 compatibility mode.

Follow the steps below to configure the site in IE 7 compatibility mode, depending on your version of IIS:

Setting IE Compatibility Mode in IIS 7

  1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools).
  2. Select the website which you want to display in compatibility mode from the console tree.
  3. From the Features View, select the HTTP Response Headers option.
  4. Right-click and select the Add... option.
  5. In the Add Custom HTTP Response Header pop-up, enter X-UA-Compatible in the Name field.
  6. Enter IE=7 in the Value field.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart the IIS service.

Setting IE Compatibility Mode in IIS 6

  1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools).
  2. Right-click the Web site in which you want to display in compatibility mode from the console tree.
  3. Select the Properties option.
  4. Select the HTTP Headers tab.
  5. Select the Add... option.
  6. Enter X-UA-Compatible in the Name field.
  7. Enter IE=7 in the Value field.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Restart the IIS service.
