Creating a Percent of Base Price
Follow these steps to specify a price as a percentage of a base price:
- Create a Prices record with Type set to Base Price, if one does not already exist for a particular Currency Type.
- Open a new Prices record and enter a Name.
- Leave Price set to 0.
- Set Type to Percent of Base.
- Enter a percentage in the % of Base field.
- For example, if you enter 50 in the % of Base field and the Base Price is $100, the system will calculate this price as $50.
- Or, if you enter 150 in the % of Base field and the Base Price is $100, the system will calculate this price as $150.
- Click the Rounding tab.
- Depending on the base price and the percentage you enter, the system may need to round the calculated price to the nearest digit based on the currency selected (for example, to the nearest cent for prices in U.S. Dollars). In this case, you can specify the system's rounding behavior on the Rounding tab.

- Select a Rounding Type from the list.
- None: No Rounding.
- Neutral: The system rounds the price up or down to the nearest value based on its relationship with the value of the Rounding Amount field. If the calculated price is not evenly divisible by the value in rounding amount, the system modifies the price as follows:If the difference between the price and the next lower amount that is evenly divisible by the rounding amount is less than half of the rounding amount, the system rounds down the price to the next lower amount. Otherwise, the system rounds up the price to the next higher value that is evenly divisible by the rounding amount.
- Up: The system always rounds the calculated price up to the nearest value that is evenly divisible by the rounding amount.
- Down: The system always rounds the calculated price down to the nearest value that is evenly divisible by the rounding amount.
- If you selected a Rounding Type other than None, specify a Rounding Amount. Consider the following examples:
- To round to the nearest 10 cents, enter 0.10 in the Rounding Amount field. In this case, if the calculated price is $10.435, the price will vary depending on the type:
- Neutral: $10.40 (rounds down)
- Up: $10.50
- Down: $10.40
- To round to the nearest 1 cent, enter 0.01 in the Rounding Amount field. In this case, if the calculated price is $10.435, the price will vary depending on the type:
- Neutral: $10.44 (rounds up)
- Up: $10.44
- Down: $10.43
- To round to the nearest $5.00, enter 5 in the Rounding Amount field. In this case, if the calculated price is $10.435, the price will vary depending on the type:
- Neutral: $10.00 (rounds down)
- Up: $15.00
- Down: $10.00
- Click the Currency tab and change the Currency Type to match the appropriate base price's currency (if applicable).
- Configure the other price options as necessary.
- Click OK to close the Prices record.
- Aptify automatically calculates the price based on the Base Price, the Percent of Base, and Rounding settings.
