System Requirements for an Aptify Development Environment

This topic lists the minimum software and hardware requirements for an Aptify development environment.

Hardware Requirements

Aptify recommends that a developer's computer meet the following minimum hardware specifications:

  • Processor: Single 3.0 GHz single-core or Single 1.8 GHz dual-core (32 or 64-bit processor)
  • RAM: 2 GB RAM
  • Hard Drive: 200 GB – IDE or SATA

Software Requirements

The following is a list of software requirements for an Aptify development environment, broken down by release:

Third-Party Software Requirements

This section lists third-party software packages that are required to develop components for Aptify, broken down by release. This is in addition to the hardware and software requirements described in this topic.

Aptify 5.5.4

  • The following software is required to develop any component for Aptify:
    • Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

  • Additionally, the following products are required to develop new user interface components that utilize the Aptify framework:
    • Infragistics NetAdvantage 2008 Volume 1
      • You need a license for these Infragistics control if you are creating new Aptify forms within Visual Studio since several Aptify bound controls inherit from Infragistics controls (and when you use the components in Visual Studio, licensing is required for the underlying third party controls).
      • While newer versions of the Infragistics tools may be available, Aptify 5.5 uiIses NetAdvantage® 2008 Volume 1. In order to obtain this software, you may need to purchase the latest version and then contact Infragistics to obtain the 2008 Volume 1 version (and an appropriate installation key for that version).
      • Aptify also uses Infragistics Web controls in Aptify Web Access.

  • ComponentOne Studio for WinForms
    • You need a license for this developer tool if you intend to add an Entity List View control to a form you are developing within Visual Studio (since the Entity List View control uses the ComponentOne C1FlexGrid control) or if you are inheriting from one of the Aptify wizard assembly that uses the C1FlexGrid control. Aptify uses the following version of the C1FlexGrid control: 2.6.20073.357.
    • Aptify also leverage the C1SpellChecker control for the text field spell check functionality. Aptify uses the following version of the C1SpellChecker control: 2.0.20073.5.

  • ComponentArt Web.UI Version 2007.1 for ASP.NET 2.0
    • Aptify developed the web menu control in Aptify 5.0 E-Business and Web Access using this tool. You need a license for it if you intend to modify the web menu control in Aptify Web Access.

Note that if you are developing user interfaces using the Aptify 5.5 Visual Designer environment, you do not need these third party applications. The Visual Designer allows you to modify existing form templates in the system and is the most common way of altering the user interface in Aptify 5.5. Since when using the Visual Designer you are interacting with Aptify controls within Aptify's design time environment (and not within the Visual Studio environment), a license to these third party controls is not necessary.

  • The following software is required to write Crystal Reports:
  • Business Objects® Crystal Reports®
    • Aptify 5.5 uses Crystal Reports 2008 with backwards compatibility to Crystal Reports 9)

  • Alternatively, you can use the version of Crystal Reports included with Visual Studio.

Aptify distributes the run time libraries from Crystal Reports so that end users can run reports directly from the Aptify Windows desktop application. However, report writers need a license for the full version of Crystal Reports to create and edit reports.

Aptify 5.5.3

  • The following software is required to develop any component for Aptify:
    • Microsoft® Visual Studio

  • Additionally, the following products are required to develop new user interface components for the Aptify desktop application that utilize the Aptify framework:
    • Infragistics® NetAdvantage® 2008 Volume 1
      • You need a license for these Infragistics control if you are creating new Aptify forms within Visual Studio since several Aptify bound controls inherit from Infragistics controls (and when you use the components in Visual Studio, licensing is required for the underlying third party controls).
      • While newer versions of the Infragistics tools may be available, Aptify 5.5 and later uses NetAdvantage® 2008 Volume 1. In order to obtain this software, you may need to purchase the latest version and then contact Infragistics to obtain the 2008 Volume 1 version (and an appropriate installation key for that version).
      • Note that this requirement only applies to developing new functionality for the Aptify desktop application.

    • ComponentOne® Studio® for WinForms
      • Note that this requirement only applies to developing new functionality for the Aptify desktop application.
      • Aptify also leverages the C1SpellChecker control for the text field spell check functionality. Aptify uses the following version of the C1SpellChecker control: 2.0.20073.5.

        Note

If you are developing user interfaces using the Aptify Visual Designer environment, you do not need these third party applications. The Visual Designer allows you to modify existing form templates in the system and is the most common way of altering the user interfaces in Aptify. Since when using the Visual Designer you are interacting with Aptify controls within Aptify’s design time environment (and not within the Visual Studio environment), a license to these third party controls is not necessary.

    • The following software is required to write Crystal Reports:
      • SAP® Crystal Reports®
      • The 5.5.3 Aptify Desktop client and Aptify web interface use the Crystal Reports 13 (Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010) viewer to display reports. Upgrading Crystal Reports versions for a Crystal Reports writer should not have an impact on Aptify. The reports viewed through Aptify should continue to use the Crystal Reports viewer leveraged by the Aptify interfaces. Existing reports should continue to function as they do today. New reports should still be compatible with the Crystal Reports 13 viewer.

        note

Aptify distributes the run time libraries from Crystal Reports so that end users can run reports directly from the Aptify Windows desktop application. However, report writers need a license for the full version of Crystal reports to create and edit reports.

Aptify 5.5.2

  • The following software is required to develop any component for Aptify:
    • Microsoft® Visual Studio 2008

  • Additionally, the following products are required to develop new user interface components that utilize the Aptify framework:
    • Infragistics® NetAdvantage® 2008 Volume 1
      • You need a license for these Infragistics control if you are creating new Aptify forms within Visual Studio since several Aptify bound controls inherit from Infragistics controls (and when you use the components in Visual Studio, licensing is required for the underlying third party controls).
      • While newer versions of the Infragistics tools may be available, Aptify 5.5 uses NetAdvantage® 2008 Volume 1. In order to obtain this software, you may need to purchase the latest version and then contact Infragistics to obtain the 2008 Volume 1 version (and an appropriate installation key for that version).
      • Aptify also uses Infragistics Web controls in Aptify Web Access.

    • ComponentOne® Studio® for WinForms
      • You need a license for this developer tool if you intend to add an Entity List View control to a form you are developing within Visual Studio (since the Entity List View control uses the ComponentOne C1FlexGrid control) or if you are inheriting from one of the Aptify wizard assembly that uses the C1FlexGrid control. Aptify uses the following version of the C1FlexGrid control: 2.6.20073.357.
    • Aptify also leverages the C1SpellChecker control for the text field spell check functionality. Aptify uses the following version of the C1SpellChecker control: 2.0.20073.5.
